A Friend to the Friendless

This story happened almost a week ago, but I'm just getting around to blogging and its worth sharing.

Last Sunday as I was dropping Nadya off in the nursery I saw a little girl of about 3 or 4 years old that was sitting on the couch crying. I recognized her as someone that has been there before, but doesn't come often, and her mom had just left the nursery.

I sat down next to her and called Nadya over to us. Conversation that followed...

"This is Nadya. Nadya, this is [girl's name]. She needs a friend today, would you like to play with her?"

Nadya nods and replies, "Yeah," then as she wipes away the little girls tears with her fingers she says in her sweetest cheer up voice, "No tears."

Nadya then walked away for a moment to find a toy, then brought it back to the little girl. They then sat on the floor together and began to play.

Nadya has such strong leadership qualities and it is always my prayer for her that as she grows up she will use this influence to show God's love. My vision for her has been to see her become someone that seeks out those that need a friend so I found this brief interaction especially heart warming. I hope this is just a taste of what's to come as she is just entering the age where she's beginning to make friends of her own.

  4. You introduced the idea that the little girl needed a friend, but Nadya consoled her and then gave of herself. It seems clear that your modeling of Christ-like responses is showing up in your daughter.. It is one of the greatest treasures of being a parent, watching your children act out of the heart of God. Keep up the good work...you will need to remember this when you get kicked out of the bowling alley someday,(long story.. I'll tell you someday)
