After sharing a room for the last 7 months, today the kids will each get their own room! With all the visitors we having coming through our house (who we enjoy hosting) we didn't want to get rid of our guest bed in order to have 2 kids rooms from the start. But now that Nadya is a little older we're comfortable with her sleeping in a "big" bed, so the guest bed will officially become hers today. However, we will have to remove the box springs for her to easily climb in so at least for awhile, our guests will be sleeping low to the ground.
As I've said before, 90% of the time we've never had a problem with them sharing a room. But for the 10% of time that Nadya wakes Eli up because of her refusal to nap or continually getting out of bed when she is first put down at night, this will be a great stress relief!
Over the last couple of days we've been telling Nadya that soon she'll get a big bed (which she is excited about) but along with that it means she can no longer sleep with a binky. Last night I told Nadya that today would be the day that she got a big bed. She thought for a moment, smiled, then said, "No binky!" I was actually quite surprised that she chose to remember this fact (why am I always surprised with the information she pays attention to and retains!?) so I asked her if this was okay. The subject quickly changed to the toys Eli was playing with in the bathtub so I never got a response...very likely because it isn't really okay with her.
So here's to hoping that the new bed will be such an excitement to her that it will overshadow the loss of her precious sleep buddy! Stay tuned...
Take it or leave it advice from "been there, done that". It would be wonderful if it goes easily, but don't make it a battle...there are a lot of things you will have to take a stand on and there are very few high schoolers still sleeping with their binky... (I sincerely mean take or leave it... much advice I was given as a young mom, I tossed as not applicable for my family... so feel free to do the same here)
ReplyDeleteYou know, I would still be sleeping with my plug if my mom had let me. I have slept with it once or twice since it was taken away and re-discovered, just for old time's sake. :-P
