Children's Book Recommendation

Today we drove to Johnson City (about an hour away) to redeem 3 gift cards to a Christian bookstore that were given to us by the churches in our section of the state. Nadya received one last year at Christmas and Eli and Nadya both received one again this year. We never just happen to be in Johnson City so today we made it happen before we built up any more!

Matt took Eli in the stroller to browse the store while Nadya and I headed for the kids section. A Veggie Tale video was playing on a big screen tv so that kept her pretty well entertained while I read book, after book, after book. There were so many good stories but I wanted to choose great ones. Books that both taught great lessons and were enjoyable to read. Thankfully I love children's books, so this was a lot of fun for me to do!

We came home with several, but I think my very favorite is "Papa's Pastries". Its a story about Miguel and his papa traveling from town to town to sell their pastries because they need money for firewood, a roof, and clothes. In every town they meet people worse off than they are so instead of selling pastries they give them all away. Miguel goes to bed wondering what will happen to his family, but the next day, each person his papa helped comes over to help them and they have all their needs met because of their kindness.

Not only is it a great story that will teach Nadya and Eli the importance of being generous, helping those in need, and that God always provides for us, but it also has nice illustrations and highlights a culture different than our own with the pictures of open air markets and bits of Spanish thrown in.

If anyone is reading this looking for a book recommendation, here it is!
